Drinking alcohol while on Klonopin

It is not advised to drink alcohol while on Klonopin. Both Klonopin and alcohol are depressants that directly affect the central nervous system (CNS). The doses of Klonopin used for anxiety and seizures help relax and calm individuals to make them feel better.

There is a risk of being addicted to Klonopin due to its calming effect. If CNS depressants are combined with other calming agents, especially alcohol, and lead to adverse side effects. Taking them both together enhances each other’s intoxicating effects, and a person is highly likely to substance abuse.

Even in small doses, the combination of Klonopin and Alcohol can lead to an individual feeling drowsy or sleepy, leading to a lack of coordination. It can lead to people having difficulty waking up, leading to coma in extreme cases.

Another risk of mixing Klonopin and Alcohol is depressed breathing. Breathing slowly or irregularly can lead to a person getting less oxygen in their body. In case of an emergency, if the person is left alone, it could lead to death.

Physical coordination might get impaired due to mixing these two. Alcohol already is intoxicating and, if mixed with Klonopin, can lead to these conditions:

  • Brain damage
  • Reduced liver functions
  • Memory problems

Klonopin can be very useful to most people suffering from anxiety and seizure disorders. It works on the neurotransmitters in the brain and helps to calm a person. Due to its calming effects, Klonopin, if taken with alcohol (another intoxicant), can increase the effect of getting intoxicated, which can be addictive and even life-threatening in severe cases.

We do not advise you to take Klonopin while under the influence of alcohol.
